Indicator Lights Meanings - Quebedeaux Mitsubishi Service Department
When a dashboard indicator light comes on, your vehicle is letting you know that something is awry. Sometimes it’s as simple as an open passenger door or that your high beam headlights are on, but sometimes it’s unclear what the indicator light means and you’re left feeling uncertain. Here are some common dashboard indicator lights that you should know about.
  • Engine Light: This indicator light means “Check Engine” and that your vehicle has detected something wrong with the engine. Since your engine is so central to your car’s operation, you will want to take your vehicle into a service center for inspection.
  • Battery Light (with “+” and “-“ signs): This is an urgent indicator light and means “Check Battery.” This light comes on when your vehicle detects that your battery is bad, failing, or not charging correctly. If this light comes on, inspect your battery and test it.
  • Car with Swerving Lines Light: This indicator light means that your traction control system is activated. Be aware that road conditions are slippery and drive carefully.
  • Tire with “!” Light: This indicator light lets you know that your vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System has detected low tire pressure. You will want to check the pressure of all four tires and fill them up accordingly. Sometimes, this indicator light is triggered by fluctuations in outdoor temperatures, but you will want to check your tire pressure anyway.
  • Circle with Brakes and “!” or “ABS” Light: Both of these indicator lights are alerting you about an issue with your brake system. The “!” light can mean, for example, that your brake fluid is low, your parking brake is on, or that your brake system has lost/is losing hydraulic pressure. If the indicator light includes “ABS,” it means that there is an issue with your Anti-Lock Brake System. If a brake warning light comes on, you will want to inspect and service your vehicle immediately.

If one of these lights comes on, contact the service department at Quebedeaux Mitsubishi as soon as possible for an appointment.
