History

Spanish for “Mountain Range View,” Sierra Vista was settled by Europeans at the end of the nineteenth century, though Apache had lived in the area for centuries. With the completion of railroads, the area began to develop communities along the route to the West Coast. Fort Huachuca established a community during the Apache Wars, and by the early twentieth century the city began to form. It wasn’t until 1956 that the town was officially incorporated. Today, the city has over 40,000 residents.
